Hundreds of Caregivers to Rally as Hospital Rejects $4.3 million

Hemet, CA — Concerned about the future of patient care in VHS hospitals, hundreds of healthcare workers will attend the VHS Board of Directors meeting and rally outside the building.  On July 8 SEIU United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU UHW) represented VHS workers met with hospital administration and offered a significant compromise from the current union contract that would immediately save the troubled hospital system $4.3 million.  On July 17, VHS administration rejected the proposal.

“The hospital rejected over $4.3 million in compromises made by employees attempting to safeguard patient care in the community,” said Tommie Henson, RN at Menifee Valley Medical Center.  "The hospital administration continues to demonstrate that they do not have the capability to turn around the hospital from its state of bankruptcy.  We call on the Board of Directors to accept our offer and work together with us to save our hospitals.”

The upcoming board meeting will make it clear that SEIU UHW members who work at VHS hospitals are prepared to stand their ground and continue to work towards a healthy future for the hospital and the community.
